In relation to the reflective post on a newstory or blog discussion that is relevant to the course unit, I was researching and saw the news is quite interesting. The news is about Google has launched the “+1 button” which is similar concept to the Facebook's "Like" button in particular. When users see something they like on a Google property, they can click the “+1 button” and your friends would see u “like” the net you had searched before. Just make sure you're signed in to your Google Account, “+1 button” could help you get recommendations or share for the things that you are interested.
Actually, the news made me think of the week 6 topic: Self.info II: Friends. As we all know that social network sites have become very popular in recent years. People enjoy communicating with others using the online social network. According to Boyd, social networks sites are based around Profiles, the social network site profiles also contains comments from other members, and a public list of the people that one identifies as Friends within the network. The online social networks create a virtual community. People shared identity, cultural inclusiveness and interests. That’s why the social network sites have become popular nowadays. Google as the searching engine for user, and now they attempt to more “communicative” .They were finally realize the importance of social networking, and its forays into making its products more social.
Google is one of the best sites for user searching information. Google is starting to cobble together a viable social strategy from this foundation. The “+1 button” making the site more social and letting people drive the sharing of those tools. Of course, the “+1 button” have some limitation. First of all, the “+1 button” will remain a one-to-one connection instead of a one-to-many or many-to-many connection. The communication circle is obviously smaller and ineffective. Secondly, it is unclear how useful “+1 button”for recommending search results to other Google users. The last but not least, we don’t know who is actually going to see what I'm “+1ing”. I know who is in my friends list at Facebook, twitter and weibo, but who is in my friends at Google? The unclear “friends” makes users don’t use the “+1 button”.
Google has announced another venture into social networking. We didn’t know its success or not. But, I am sure that the social networking is absolutely important for everyone nowadays. And social network is a trend in the next few decades.
