Course Reflection

When this semester just started, I knew I am going to take a unit of "Self. Net Identity in the Digital Age". At first, I thought it is a course similar to the previous units I had studied, such as Communication Project and Digital Media, which mainly focus on practical aspect of learning how to use some of advanced technological devices and computer programmes. However, my guess was wrong. It is a theoretical subject about ‘cyborg’.

To me, I have no idea about ‘cyborg’. In my impression, I think cyborg is the same with robot which is made of metals and wires, like Gundam. And I think it is only our imagination created in comics and science fictions. Therefore, when I was told we all are cyborgs, I was shocked and thought this is ridiculous. We are human in flesh and blood, how do we relate to cyborg?

After several weeks of learning, I now have a clear understanding on the concept of cyborg. Indeed, we are in the digital age that everywhere is congested with technology and its products. It is no doubt that to say we are cyborgs as we all are pleased to use different kinds of advanced technologies, such as mobile phones and the Internet, and heavily rely on them due to the convenience they bring into our daily life.

Besides, using web blog as a learning platform is appreciated to me. It not only provides a space for us to express and share our views on an issue more freely, but also facilitates our learning. Since the Internet overcomes the restriction on time and geographical boundary, we can access to the web blog in anytime and anywhere for discussion and collecting various ideas among course-mates that makes the learning process to be more effective.
